How to stay calm when wedding problems arise

Planning a wedding tips

If there’s one thing you can’t avoid while wedding planning, it’s the unexpected problems that can happen while you plan, the week before, or on the day of your wedding.

So the fact is, you know problems will come but it’s how you deal with them when they do that is important.

For some of you, it might not be a big deal if things change. You might be the type of person who just goes with the flow. You’re able to adapt well and make changes if you need to. It doesn’t cause you extra stress because you know it’s just part of the process.

But some of you may be the complete opposite… you might be such a planner that it’s really hard for you to adjust when things don’t go the way you planned. You might be a perfectionist who wants things done a certain way. When things have to change, it may cause you a lot of extra stress, especially right before your wedding, which I totally understand!!

If you accept that problems will happen, and have a game plan ready for when they do come, it can relieve A LOT of unwanted stress!! You will be able to roll with the punches and not let it get you down.

So, how do you do this?!

  • Accept that problems will come!

Like I said above, go into your wedding day knowing that a small or big problem may come up. Make a promise to yourself that no matter what happens you will not let it steal any of the joy that your wedding day will bring! Trust me, it will help!

For me, things happened unexpectedly during the week of my wedding, and I knew I had a choice! I could either let myself get super frustrated and stressed out or I could just deal with the problem and look forward to my wedding in a couple of days! I relied heavily upon my family during this time. They helped me see the big picture and reassure me that everything was going to be okay!

  • Focus on what is important!

Which is marrying your best friend!! I knew I could get through anything that was thrown at me, because at the end of the day I was marrying the love of my life and that’s what was important. Not that every table setting was perfect or if it rained or shined. God had brought us to our wedding day and that alone calmed me and gave me joy through the little problems that came up.

  • Rely on your fiancé and family to help!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help!! If there is a problem that suddenly transpires, go to your fiancé or a family member and let them calm you down and help you resolve the issue!

For me, a lot of my wedding guests seemed to be leaving my wedding reception really early. I went to my now husband and explained to him what was happening. He helped me refocus my attention on the people who were there and not to worry about it because it was something that I couldn’t control. After I talked to him, I was able to fully enjoy the rest of the night!

Problems will come, but you can get through them and they don’t have to ruin anything!!

You are getting married!! This is something that you may have dreamt about since you were little. Don’t let all these expectations that you might have take away your wedding bliss and stop you from being present on your wedding day. It goes by so fast! Know that everything is going to be okay because God has brought you to this moment. Pray to Him for strength and to take away any worry or stress that you may have!

Don’t let anything steal your joy, and have the best wedding planning season and wedding day ever!!

With love,

Jess Conley
